This report identifies the places where Minnesota Snowbird Horse people keep their horses for the winter in Apache Junction and other nearby places in Arizona. There are many other stables in the area, however we have listed the ones here, where we know people who board at these places and have recommended the stable. Have your horse travel documents in order when you arrive. Coggins tests, health certificates, and shot records are the least that you should carry with you. Some stables may quarantine you if you arrive without them.

Horse Trails
The town of Apache Junction has established an Equestrian Park corridor in an L-shape area bordering the town on the north and east sides and extending over ten miles in length. This corridor has public access entrances at each street crossing as you traverse the entire length. The park area varies in width from a half mile wide to over two miles wide, so all included there are several square miles of Sonoran desert environment to enjoy on horseback. Most of the horse stables are located along this periphery, so no matter where you stay you have easy access to this trail system.

RV Parks Allowing Horse Trailers with Living Quarters - Apache Junction, AZ

Weaver's Needle RV Park
250 S Tomahawk Rd
Apache Junction, AZ 85219
480-982-3683 www.weaversneedle.com
E-mail: weaversneedle@yahoo.com
Bill & Bertha Ritchie, Managers

Since so few of the stables around the area have RV Parking on site, as shown in the above list, many of our horse friends parked their horse trailers with self contained living quarters right in this conventional RV park. We did not see very many other parks that allowed this during the 2003 - 2008 winter seasons, but we did not do a full investigation of how many of the hundred or so RV parks would have allowed trailers.

2008 rates at Weaver's Needle begin at $210/week, $445/month plus electricity, or less for 3, 4, or 5 month or 1 year commitments. 2009 rates - please call - web site does not show them yet.

Most of the horse stables listed above had a couple of campers staying there whether or not it was officially allowed, but you cannot depend on doing this if you don't get there first or make special arrangements.
