About the MTRA

Minnesota Trail Riders Association (MTRA) is a statewide non profit organization dedicated to:

(1) the distribution of trail riding information
(2) promotion, development and maintenance of trails
(3) providing assistance to public land managers in the performance of their stewardship responsibilities to provide the public with safe and well-maintained equine trail systems.

Since 2000 MTRA has channeled over $250,000 to trail and campground maintenance and improvement projects to local, county, state and national (Chippewa) forests and parks.  These projects include trail maintenance, erosion control, map printing, trail signing, and campground improvements such as corrals, picnic tables, fire rings, picket lines, electrical hookups, manure bunkers, and assistance with new campground development (Cut Foot, Togo, Sand Dunes).

Our MTRA Newsletter is mailed to members six times annually (February, April, May, June, July/August and Sept/October).  The Newsletter provides a calendar of equestrian events. It also includes scheduled trail rides and other current information of interest to trail riders such as: trail development and improvements, articles on local, county, state, and national parks and forests, camping tips, ride reviews, advertisements, horse care updates, and helpful checklists on equipment and trailering.

MTRA is managed by a statewide Board of Directors. Currently there are 18 Directors. These are all volunteer positions and the board members represent a wide area in the state. Each has adopted committee assignments that are necessary for the operation of the MTRA. The board meets approximately six times a year to conduct the business of the organization.

MTRA is not a protest organization, but instead is a service organization.  We strive to be both educational and supportive while promoting our unique, but traditional, recreational trail riding pursuits in Minnesota.  We believe we can add to the outdoor recreational legacy that is a prime goal of our citizens.
